Description
Television and Movie Actor.Famous for his mustache, a Hawaiian-style aloha shirt and driving a red Ferrari 308 GTS, Selleck had his breakthrough role in the 1980s television series Magnum PI.
An avid outdoorsman, marksman and firearms collector, Selleck transitioned into leading-man roles in western films. In 1990 after starring in over 50 films and numerous TV series, Selleck starred in the western Quigley Down Under. Wearing his red long johns and cowboy hat from the film, this picture is from the first setup in a day-long photography session at his Hidden Hills ranch, and at an adjoining cattle ranch in Thousand Oaks, CA.
The production for this photograph required first placing the copper bathtub in the middle of a cowfield, situated at the right angle to the sun. The water provided from an industrial size tanker truck was then passed through an industrial water heating pump and into the tub. Two cowboys on horseback needed to gather up the cows and move them behind Tom, then bunch the cows so they stayed behind Tom without the cowboys appearing in the camera frame. Movie makeup was needed to give him that dirty gritty look of working on the range all day. With the tub now filled with water it probably weighed several hundreds pounds, needing 4 men to move it as the angle to the sun changed.
